AI Pantry Scanner — Photo & Barcode Scan Your Groceries

Snap a photo of your fridge, pantry shelves, or grocery receipt. AislePrompt's AI vision identifies every item and builds your digital pantry with expiration tracking. No app install — works in any browser. Photo scanning is free, no account needed. Barcode scanning requires a free account (sign up in under 30 seconds, no credit card). This page covers the capture technology. For cooking from your stocked pantry see Cook With What You Have; for weekly meal planning and Instacart checkout see AI Meal Planner.

Snap, don't type

This page is about the capture step — how items get into your pantry record, and how to ship the gap straight to Instacart once you know what you're short on. Most pantry apps want you to hand-type every item. The AislePrompt scanner runs a vision model in your browser that recognises bottles, jars, boxes, fresh produce, and printed receipts — a single shelf photo populates 30+ inventory rows in about 5 seconds, each tagged with its detected category, default expiry estimate, and a "review" badge so you can fix any mis-reads before saving.

Two capture modes: photo scan for shelves and receipts, barcode scan for packaged items. Both build your digital pantry automatically.

Scanned your shelf? Shop the gap. Send everything the scan flagged as missing or low straight to an Instacart cart at your retailer — one tap, no re-typing.
Already stocked up? Cook with what you have or let the AI Meal Planner deduct your pantry from a weekly cart.

Barcode scanner for precision

For packaged items, the built-in barcode scanner reads UPCs directly from your phone's camera. That gives exact brand-and-size matching so AislePrompt can show you nutrition info and build a precise pantry record for each item. Note: barcode scanning requires a free account — sign up in under 30 seconds, no credit card needed. Photo-based pantry capture and recipe browsing work without an account.

Expiration tracking

Each scan stores an expiration estimate based on the product category and typical shelf life. A dashboard shows what is expiring soon with traffic-light badges — green, amber, red — so you know what to use first.

Family pantry sync

Households on a shared profile see one digital pantry across every member's phone. When a teenager scans the milk jug at home, dad sees it on his commute. Nobody comes home with a duplicate gallon. Per-household privacy controls let members opt out of specific shelves (kid snacks, supplements) without leaving the household.

Receipt + handwritten list scanner

Snap a printed grocery receipt or a handwritten shopping list and the OCR layer pulls items + quantities into your pantry. No re-typing items you just bought. Works on Costco, Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, Target, and most regional chain receipt formats.

Browser-based, no app install

Every other AI pantry tracker is an iOS or Android app. AislePrompt runs in any modern browser — iPhone Safari, Android Chrome, laptop, desktop. Add to home screen for an app-like icon without the App Store friction. Native iOS and Android apps are also available (App Store · Google Play) for push notifications and an offline pantry view — useful when checking what you already own from a store aisle without signal. Barcode scanning in the native app still requires internet to look up the UPC database.

What's next? Ship the missing items to Instacart

Once your pantry is scanned you know exactly what you already own — and exactly what you're short on. Two ways to close the loop from here.

Skip the second cart-build step. Send your scanned pantry gaps straight to an Instacart cart at your preferred retailer — one tap covers everything the vision model flagged as missing or low.

Frequently Asked Questions

What devices work?

Any device with a modern browser and camera — iPhone, Android, iPad, laptop with webcam. iOS Safari, Android Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and Safari desktop are all tested.

Does the scanner work offline?

Barcode and photo scanning both require an internet connection — barcode scanning to look up the UPC database, photo scanning to call the vision model. The native iOS and Android apps include an offline pantry view so you can browse items you've already scanned without a connection, but adding new items via barcode or camera always requires internet.

Is it free?

Yes — free, no credit card required. No trial, no ads. All vision costs are absorbed by AislePrompt.

Where does the pantry data live?

Signed-in users: encrypted in AislePrompt's Azure database, synced across devices. Guests: in your browser's localStorage on this device only.

Can it read handwritten grocery lists?

Yes. The vision model reads handwritten and printed text. It works best on clear photos with good lighting.
