- 2 oz bourbon
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup water
- 5 fresh basil leaves
- 2 dashes Angostura bitters
- 1 strip orange twist
Instructions
- Step 1: Make the basil syrup: In a small saucepan, combine 1/2 cup sugar, 1/2 cup water, and 5 fresh basil leaves. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring until sugar dissolves. Remove from heat, cover, and steep for 1 hour. Strain through a fine-mesh sieve into a clean jar and cool completely.
- Step 2: In a rocks glass, add 2 oz bourbon, 1/2 oz basil simple syrup, and 2 dashes Angostura bitters. Stir gently for 30 seconds until fully integrated.
- Step 3: Express the oils from a 1-inch strip of orange peel by twisting it over the drink until fragrant, then drop the peel into the glass as a garnish.
