  1. Step 1: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. Step 2: Whisk 2 cups all-purpose flour, 1 tbsp baking powder, and 1/2 tsp salt in a bowl.
  3. Step 3: Beat 1/2 cup softened butter and 1 cup granulated sugar in a separate bowl until creamy (3 minutes). Add 2 large eggs one at a time, then mix in 1 tsp vanilla extract.
  4. Step 4: Alternate adding the dry ingredients and 1 cup buttermilk to the butter mixture, starting and ending with dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
  5. Step 5: Pour batter into prepared pan and bake for 35 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Step 6: While cake cools, whisk 1/4 cup maple syrup and 1 cup powdered sugar to make glaze. Drizzle over cake and let set for 15 minutes before serving.
