- 1 sheet (14 oz), thawed puff pastry
- 2, thinly sliced yellow onions
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1/2 cup, shredded Gruyère cheese
- 1/4 cup heavy cream
- 1 tsp, chopped fresh thyme
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/8 tsp black pepper
Instructions
- Step 1: Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Cut puff pastry into 4-inch squares and press each into a muffin tin cavity, pressing up the sides.
- Step 2: Melt 2 tbsp butter in a skillet over medium heat, add 2 thinly sliced yellow onions, and cook for 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally, until deeply golden and caramelized.
- Step 3: In a small bowl, combine 1/2 cup shredded Gruyère cheese, 1/4 cup heavy cream, 1 tsp chopped thyme, 1/4 tsp salt, and 1/8 tsp black pepper.
- Step 4: Spoon the caramelized onions evenly into each pastry cup, then top with the cheese mixture.
- Step 5: Bake for 18-20 minutes until pastry is golden and cheese is bubbly, then cool for 5 minutes before serving.
