Hidden Cinnamon Spice Cake

Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp ground ginger
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1/2 cup, softened unsalted butter
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1/2 cup, chopped walnuts
Instructions
- Step 1: Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
- Step 2: In a medium bowl, whisk together 1 1/2 cups flour, 1 tsp baking powder, 1/2 tsp baking soda, 1/2 tsp salt, 1 tsp cinnamon, 1/2 tsp ginger, and 1/4 tsp nutmeg.
- Step 3: In a large bowl, beat 1/2 cup softened butter and 1 cup sugar until creamy. Add 2 eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Mix in 1 cup buttermilk.
- Step 4: Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Fold in 1/2 cup chopped walnuts.
- Step 5: Pour half the batter into the pan. Mix 1/4 cup sugar and 1/2 tsp cinnamon, then sprinkle half over the batter. Top with remaining batter and sprinkle with remaining sugar-cinnamon mixture.
- Step 6: Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Cool in pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
