Ingredients
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/4 cup melted chocolate
- 1/4 cup white icing
Instructions
- Step 1: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Step 2: In a large bowl, cream 1/2 cup softened unsalted butter and 1/2 cup sugar until light and fluffy, about 2 minutes. Beat in 1 large egg and 1/2 tsp vanilla extract until combined.
- Step 3: Whisk 1 cup all-purpose flour and 1/4 tsp salt in a separate bowl. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet, mixing until a dough forms.
- Step 4: Roll the dough into 1-inch balls and place on the baking sheet, spacing them 2 inches apart. Flatten each ball slightly with the back of a spoon.
- Step 5: Bake for 10-12 minutes until the edges are golden, then let cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
- Step 6: Once cool, spread 1/4 cup white icing on each cookie to create a face. Use 1/4 cup melted chocolate to pipe two small dots for eyes and a smile or frown for the mouth.
