Ingredients
- 3 tbsp olive oil
- 1, minced shallot
- 2 cloves, minced garlic
- 28 oz canned crushed tomatoes
- 1/4 cup, chopped fresh basil
- 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
Instructions
- Step 1: Heat 3 tbsp olive oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat until shimmering. Add 1 minced shallot and sauté for 2 minutes until softened.
- Step 2: Add 2 minced garlic cloves and 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes, stirring constantly for 30 seconds until fragrant — do not brown the garlic.
- Step 3: Pour in 28 oz canned crushed tomatoes, then add 1/2 tsp salt and 1/4 tsp black pepper. Bring to a gentle simmer, then reduce heat to low and cook uncovered for 25 minutes, stirring occasionally until the sauce thickens slightly and coats the back of a spoon.
- Step 4: Remove from heat and stir in 1/4 cup chopped fresh basil. Let rest for 10 minutes before serving to allow flavors to meld.
