Ingredients
- 2 medium yellow onion
- 1/2 cup mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup cornstarch
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 large egg
- 1/4 cup milk
- 2 inches vegetable oil
Instructions
- Step 1: Cut 2 medium yellow onions into 1/2-inch thick rings, separating the layers. Place the rings in a bowl and sprinkle 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella evenly over them. Gently wrap each onion ring around the cheese to form a core, pressing the edges to hold the cheese inside.
- Step 2: In a shallow dish, combine 1/2 cup all-purpose flour, 1/4 cup cornstarch, 1/2 teaspoon baking powder, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1/4 teaspoon black pepper.
- Step 3: In another shallow dish, whisk 1 large egg with 1/4 cup milk until smooth.
- Step 4: Dip each cheese-wrapped onion ring into the egg mixture, then roll in the flour mixture, pressing gently to ensure even coating.
- Step 5: Heat 2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep pot to 375°F (190°C). Fry the onion rings in batches for 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy.
