Honey-Spiced Filo Pastry with Pistachios

Ingredients
- 16 sheets filo pastry
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup almonds
- 1/2 cup pistachios
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon cardamom
- 1/2 cup honey
- 1/4 cup water
- 1/4 cup crushed pistachios
Instructions
- Step 1: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Brush a 9x13-inch baking dish with 2 tablespoons melted butter.
- Step 2: In a bowl, mix almonds, chopped pistachios, sugar, cinnamon, and cardamom until combined.
- Step 3: Place one filo sheet in the baking dish, brushing lightly with melted butter. Layer 4 more sheets, brushing each with butter, then sprinkle half the nut mixture evenly over the top.
- Step 4: Layer 3 more filo sheets, brushing each with butter, then sprinkle remaining nut mixture over the top.
- Step 5: Top with the final 3 sheets, brushing each with butter, and fold edges inward to seal. Cut into 1-inch squares.
- Step 6: Bake for 25 minutes until golden and crisp. While baking, combine honey and water in a saucepan and simmer for 5 minutes to thicken.
- Step 7: Drizzle warm honey syrup over baked pastries and sprinkle with crushed pistachios.
