Bekasi Street-Style Spiced Tofu Skewers
Crispy tofu cubes marinated in turmeric and shrimp paste, grilled to perfection and served with a tangy tamarind dipping sauce.

Ingredients
- 1 block firm tofu
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp shrimp paste
- 2 tbsp tamarind paste
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- 3 cloves garlic
- 1 medium shallot
- 8 skewers
Instructions
- Step 1: Cut 1 block firm tofu into 1-inch cubes. In a bowl, mix 1 tsp turmeric powder, 1 tsp shrimp paste, 3 minced garlic cloves, and 1 finely chopped shallot until paste forms. Add 1 tbsp brown sugar and 2 tbsp tamarind paste, then coat tofu cubes evenly.
- Step 2: Thread tofu onto 8 soaked wooden skewers, leaving space between pieces. Grill over medium heat for 8 minutes, turning every 2 minutes until edges are slightly charred and tofu is firm.
- Step 3: Simmer remaining marinade in a small saucepan for 3 minutes until thickened. Brush over grilled tofu during the last 2 minutes of cooking.
- Step 4: Serve immediately with extra tamarind sauce for dipping, garnished with fresh cilantro.
