Spiced Apple and Potato Casserole

Ingredients
- 3 medium, peeled and thinly sliced potatoes
- 2 medium, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced apples
- 1/4 cup, melted unsalted butter
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
Instructions
- Step 1: Preheat oven to 375°F. Butter a 9x13-inch baking dish.
- Step 2: Toss sliced potatoes and apples with 1/4 cup melted butter in the dish, spreading evenly.
- Step 3: In a saucepan, melt remaining 1/4 cup butter over medium heat. Whisk in flour and cook for 1 minute, then gradually whisk in milk until smooth.
- Step 4: Stir in brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Simmer for 3-4 minutes until thickened, then pour over potatoes and apples.
- Step 5: Sprinkle breadcrumbs evenly over top and bake for 45-50 minutes until golden and potatoes are tender when pierced.
