Instructions
- Step 1: In a large skillet over medium heat, melt 2 tbsp unsalted butter and 1 tbsp olive oil. Add 2 large thinly sliced yellow onions and 1 tsp brown sugar, cooking for 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally until onions are deeply caramelized and golden brown.
- Step 2: Remove onions from the skillet and set aside.
- Step 3: In the same skillet, add 6 bratwurst sausages and brown on all sides over medium-high heat for 5 minutes.
- Step 4: Pour in 12 oz craft beer, reduce heat to medium-low, cover, and simmer bratwursts for 15 minutes until cooked through.
- Step 5: Remove bratwursts and increase heat to medium-high to reduce the beer sauce by half, about 5 minutes.
- Step 6: Return bratwursts to the skillet, add caramelized onions back on top, season with 1/2 tsp salt and 1/4 tsp black pepper, and cook together for 2 more minutes.
- Step 7: Garnish with 2 tbsp chopped fresh parsley if desired, and serve warm.
